The Grandfather Machine is a first-person maze/puzzle game, featuring a live performance actor developed by Shuaiying 'Shane' Hou and Michael Murray.

The game takes place in a desert environment you explore, and is broken up into two main spaces: the Real World and the Virtual World where the mechanics of play change depending on your location in these worlds. The core game mechanics including wall-walking, gravity manipulations and space paradoxes. On the game narrative side, The Grandfather Machine is an experience into the adventure of a surreal world featuring alternative thinking and bizarre logic.

The player awakens to find himself in a strange place. A scientist asks him to take several tests to “find answers to some of the life’s biggest questions”. The player has to finish a series of challenges in a Matrix-style virtual space, and he could walk on every plane like ground, wall and ceiling, go through different dimensions and travel by gravity pads to reach the final destination. But what lies at the end of his journey?

the artwork is the great and I like the concept and the professor that guides you through it did a good job and I know that you're probably not going to read this but the reason why I can not recommend it is that for me the game is virtually unplayable to just how ludicrously low the mouse sensitivity is to the point that I have to drag my mouse just to be able to so much as do a 180 degree turn which just completely destroys any immersion and judging by the description  there appears to be no way to increase it. which sucks because it looked really damn good.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I've had a huge list of games to play, and I finally got around to checking this one out. Have to say, it's absolutely amazing! The visual effects/illusions are mind-boggling, and the whole theming of the game is great! I love the narrator, as well as the creepy cat clocks. :P

Definitely looking forward to playing the full version of this game if/when it comes out! :)

Such a wonderful game! I think you nailed the level design and I adore the overall concept. My one gripe was the mouse sensitivity. It was way too low. I don't know if that was just my system, but it would have been nice to have an option to adjust it. Especially with look movement being so important. I also got stuck at one point around 28:05 and couldn't tell if it was a bug or not. Other than that, this was a perfect experience!

Thanks for your play through! Yes that was a bug which I never experienced in my game before. Really great comments, thank you!

Loved it!  The graphics are beautiful, the design does everything to bring you in and give you this experience.  The virtual guide is fantastic, and a really cool idea as well.  The mechanics are phenomenal, I loved every second of it.  And just when I thought the mechanics alone could carry the whole game, you continued to blow my mind til the end.  An unexpectedly amazing experience.  GREAT JOB!

Hey guys, the INSTALL button in the itch.io client is not working at the moment. Please download the game from the website instead.

Hey Guys,

Just to let you know that when I click the INSTALL button, nothing happens :(

thx

i am having the same problem.

Hi! I can't remember if there is an install button in game. Could you explain where did you find it? A screenshot would be great!

I think they're referring to the install button in the itch application to download and install the game. I had that issue as well with this and with other games stored on Google drive. Downloading through the web page should work.

Thanks for the comments Guys, I'll give it a go and let you know what happens.
